How People Make Love Around the World

One morning my wife told me you know what I had a dream about... that you wrote an amazing article about how people around the world have sex. My first reaction, based upon my experiences having sex with women from a number of different cultures across three continents, was don't we all have sex pretty much the same way?

There's usually first a bit of alcohol consumed, some kissing and caressing that leads to grinding our bodies on each other, we move to a bed, clothes come off, then there's usually a blowjob then penetration, switch positions a few times, cowgirl, missionary, doggystyle... Wham, bam thank you ma'am!

The United States

Where I'm from. I'll offer a few insights from experience...

• The Sex in the City stereotype is somewhat accurate. As much as everyone seems to bemoan it, we are a hook up culture; sex often occurs before a relationship is established. Sex is the prerequisite to even considering becoming boyfriend and girlfriend, instead of the other way around. Americans prefer to linger in a dating grey zone for weeks, months or years having sex with a partner with some regularity but making no commitment to each other or reaching no implicit or explicit exclusivity arrangement.
• Any single man who has traveled much consistently has the experience of asking a local guy in a foreign country: So what do girls like here? How do I attract the local women? and the local guy will almost invariably tell you... Girls are just into money here! If you're rich, you've got it made with the ladies... Honestly, this isn't the case in America, women are pretty economically empowered in the USA so a man with ample resources will not necessarily have a lot more sexual options. I can think of plenty of times in my life when I was pretty poor and it never seemed to bar me much from the sexual marketplace. I've also known plenty of well established, secure, and successful American guys who really struggled to score a date or get a girlfriend.
• In America, style and swagger and social status are what make a man the most attractive. More than resources, intelligence or virtue women want men who look, move and act with the indifferent cockiness of movie stars or pop stars. Social status also makes a huge difference; men who are popular in a social circle or scene will have a tremendous abundance of women to sleep with whereas antisocial will really struggle.
• America, more than anywhere else in the world, is where I've had the most bonafide one night stands; spent the night with a woman the day I met her or on a first date and then even after having decent sex together, she was just not interested in seeing me again.
  
• Contrary to what you've seen in Hollywood movies about about hook up culture in high school, American teenagers aren't jumping into bed with each other left and right, only 27% of teenagers have had sex in the last 3 months.
• Being a rather egalitarian country men give oral sex here as much as they receive it more or less.
• Americans are proportionally a little gay, 8% of men and 7% of women identified as gay or bisexual.

Colombia

I lived here for over two years and enthusiastically pursued the local women.

• The prelude to sex in Colombia is almost always dancing. In fact, dancing is so intertwined with the Colombian soul that you can expect dancing at almost every social function. If you're even remotely social in Colombia expect to receive a lot of rhythmical vertical bump'n grind lap dances, also Colombians love to dance bachata, this is kind of a more intimate form of salsa dancing that involves some horny body grinding as well. • Colombian women are not starfish; they are quite active in bed, they pur like exotic cats as you make love to them and beg you for milk. Expect blowjobs galore and a variety of sex positions.
• I recall a time that I a Colombian friend invited me to a street fair that was going on their barrio, a funny little show was put on with music and costumed performers, at the end of the show female character pretended to give a blowjob to a male character. Which seemed a bit indecent to me for a street festival attended by many families.
• This is a very promiscuous culture by every subjective or objective measure. __ Colombia is one culture where you should actually be a bit hesitant about sleeping with a taken women. Colombian guys are infamous for getting violent (sometimes lethal) revenge on the men their girlfriends and wives cheat on them with. In my time thier I heard a handful of stories about men being stabbed, shot or beaten up for messing around with the wrong guy's girl. Ten cuidado caballeros!
