Coronavirus may not be the apocalyptic superbug that experts fear. But naivete kills and healthy paranoia is warranted when it comes to the specter of disease epidemics. This Biohacking protocol will fortify your immune system to fend it off.

Update: I wrote this manifesto on "bio-prepping" for antifragility back in early 2020 and I was wrong about a few things, but on balance, my recommendations here have stood the test of time. My wife and I got COVID (of the Omicron strain, we believe) recently and it was a walk in the park - we were never bed-ridden and actually did a little morning workout together every day - thanks to our disciplined implementation of many of the immune biohacks here. When I wrote this naively hoped that the pandemic would galvanize widespread public interest in health and preventative immune medicine. Instead, apparently, most people sat on their couches, binging Netflix, and got fatter. Long-term thinking biohackers remain a dissident fringe in society. While COVID itself seems to be evolving in a less virulent direction, I anticipate future pandemics and viral challenges to our collective health. It's still a great time to invest in a formidable immune armamentarium, a lot of the things discussed in this article we now carry here in the Limitless Health crypto store.

This article is based on a not-insignificant amount of research and my nearly 9 years of obsession with Biohacking, running N of 1 trials with numerous Nootropics and immune-enhancing supplements and tools. I've been voraciously reading and watching everything about the Coronavirus for the past few weeks, and I found almost everything on the Internet lacking in solutions for those concerned about Coronavirus coming to their backyard so I've prepared this article. Here I list a number of supplements and drugs that you can take to fortify your immune system so you don't have to worry so much about the Coronavirus.

If you don't want to invest in your immune system and health, you can just hope that Coronavirus is not the next Spanish Flu. You can just hope that this is not the apocalyptic superbug disease outbreak that experts warn we are civilizational overdue for. You can just hope that your government manages to contain the spread of the virus. If, like me, you remain optimistic and hopeful but also believe in prepping and preparing for the worst, don't delay in getting and using the biohacks described here to make yourself all the more antifragile in this Darwinian world.

The online sources of these supplements are already seeing an uptick in orders (they may be sold out by the time you're reading this - I'll try to update it with sources that have products in stock). If the Coronavirus epidemic is aggressive you can expect that hospitals, particularly in the major population centers, will become overwhelmed, and you would, in fact, want to avoid hospitals as they will be the main disease vectors along with airplanes, airports, and public transport. If the epidemic gets bad, pharmacies and drug stores' supplies of immune-supporting supplements and drugs will be exhausted. It will become very hard and costly to get medicine. So don't succumb to normalcy bias, practice a little long-term thinking, and stock up now...

Coronavirus Map

We can most accurately estimate the Coronavirus infection-to-mortality rate using the Chinese live-updated outbreak map, according to official figures, currently, about 17,000 are infected with less than 500 deaths, a 2% - 3% mortality rate, certainly lower than Ebola (up to 90%), SARS (11%) and the Spanish flu (up to 20%) but there's still a lot of reason for concern... 

  • The deaths are disproportionately among the elderly, the sick, the very young, and those with suppressed immune systems.
  • The youngest to die is a 36-year-old man so younger otherwise healthy people do need to worry about it.
  • A preliminary study published in The Lancet, of a small group of the infected, indicates that the real mortality rate could be a lot higher, 15% and it emphasizes the concerning 83% transmissivity, it spreads very easily.
  • It has a relatively long incubation period; 8 - 14 days which renders the quarantine largely ineffective, people unwittingly carrying the virus have taken international flights around the world already.
  • The infection and mortality figures, unfortunately, come from the Chinese Communist Party, one of the worst governments on Earth. They are not very trustworthy. The ideologically similar Soviet government's official death count for the Chernobyl catastrophe was 31 when actually it killed nearly a million people.
  • The Chinese government has quarantined 60 million people (the largest quarantine in history). They are taking it very seriously. This hints that the scale and seriousness of the problem are greater than the official figures indicate

Fortify Immunity

The human immune system is pretty amazing, when it's properly empowered, you don't need to fret a lot about becoming a statistic in a  catastrophic outbreak. Coronavirus is a particularly virulent strain of flu, like SARS, so supplementing immune support that defends against flu is a really smart idea. 

Quality matters; my mission as a biohacker has been identifying and verifying pure, clean, and credible sources of supplements, which are linked here - if you just order what you can find on Amazon you have a 50/50 chance of ingesting a heavy-metal tainted and possibly fraudulent supplement. The most effective, most economic are toward the top of this list. If you have a limited budget get the ones towards the top of this list...

 Siberian Ginseng (Eleuthero) -  Siberian Ginseng (which I think is a cooler name than Eleutherococcus senticosus) is probably my favorite immune biohack because of its effectiveness, safety, and low cost along with pleasant taste and aesthetics. The Soviets in Russia utterly failed to build a socialist utopia but luckily for you they did manage to do some good herbal science and identify this immunity-promoting supplement which was badly needed in a country where the weather sometimes gets as cold as on the surface of the moon. It worked so well that they gave it to everyone from their Olympic athletes and soldiers fighting in Afghanistan to cosmonauts and supersonic aviators. But its research is not limited to the Russosphere, you can find over 20 human clinical trials done all around the world on Pubmed.

 Rhodiola Rosea - This is probably my favorite Adaptogenic herb because of the noticeable dual effects it has of alleviating stress and energizing you. Anything that improves your stress management has a downstream effect improving your immune system.

Quality is actually a major concern with Adaptogens. What you don't want to do is just buy the cheapest brand of herbs from your local vitamin store, they are invariably very low quality; industrially farmed in China and have unacceptably high levels of toxic metals.
I've used a lot of Adaptogens from different suppliers and unlike some of the other vitamins and nutrients mentioned here; there is a big difference between the cheap stuff that I grab off a store shelf and organic herbs from reputable vendors which are verified as pure with a certificate of analysis or spectroscopy report.

Stress Management

Chronic stress is the enemy of immunity. Too many walk around every day in a state of low-level, unresolved stress which is certainly not helped by the media hysteria around the Coronavirus outbreak. There's no better time than now to habituate stress management...

  • Spend 15-20 minutes daily doing a meditation-mindfulness practice (start by using an app like Headspace)
  • Do heart rate variability training daily with a Heartmath device.
  • Spend an hour or two a week exercising, break a sweat.

Valter Longo, Professor of Gerontology & the Biological Sciences at the University of California had studied this extensively, his research is indicating that fasting is one of the best things you can do for your immune system. To quote some of Dr. Longo's remarks that appeared in the UK's Telegraph, describing trials he conducted with people fasting for 2 - 4 days.

"When you starve, the system tries to save energy, and one of the things it can do to save energy is to recycle a lot of the immune cells that are not needed, especially those that may be damaged,"
"It gives the 'OK' for stem cells to go ahead and begin proliferating and rebuild the entire system,"

To repeat, it rebuilds the entire immune system, that's a remarkable claim, isn't it? Fasting causes autophagy, which is when your body kills off old and unhealthy cells, this particularly, rejuvenates the immune system.

Ejaculation Control (For Men)

This immunity lifehack comes from the original Biohackers - Taoists. From a book that is a must-read for men, The Tao Of Health, Sex, and Longevity

The Multi-Orgasmic ManPeng Tze points out, “one ejaculation is one hundred times more harmful than one in spring.” Men who sharply reduce their emission frequencies during winter without reducing intercourse suffer far less from colds, influenza, chills, the winter “blues,” and other symptoms related to cold weather. (5586-5589)

The Multi-Orgasmic Man by Mantak Chia concurred

Taoists, who lived close to nature, also believed that just as plants and animals conserve their energy in winter, so should people. (p. 79)

This may sound like a pseudo-spiritual biohack but this ancient knowledge makes a lot of sense if you have a cursory knowledge of male reproductive biology. Producing semen is biologically costly, it contains a lot of zinc and valuable nutrients. That's energy and resources that could be spent keeping you healthy during the winter months.

If you think about it, the times you've gotten ill were often preceded by times when you were ejaculating a lot. No surprise, when we are young we can produce a lot more semen and we can ejaculate almost daily without it making much of a difference to our health and energy levels but as we advance through our third, fourth, and fifth decades this changes.

Mask Thyself

Apparently, Chinese front companies have been buying up world supplies of N-95 face masks, so don't delay in getting one! You've probably heard that face masks are a half-measure for preventing infection because they only cover your mouth, not your eyes. It's still a good idea to wear a mask, particularly if you live in an outbreak hotspot and spend much time interacting with the public, it blocks inhalation of a lot, but not all, microscopic nastiness.

The mainstream pieces on it always end saying "But, good news, scientists are working on a vaccine. The vaccine will be fast-tracked for the public."

I'm not a categorical "anti-vaxxer", but the popular vaccines are highly problematic...

  • With vaccines, you're injecting unacceptably high amounts of Mercury and Aluminum into your body.
  • Vaccines don't undergo thorough safety studies.
  • Vaccines don't undergo real placebo studies.
  • Often vaccines contain an attenuated, weakened virus which the vaccinated then shed and spread.

I would not take a Coronavirus vaccine unless people were getting sick and dropping dead around me and I definitely would not take it if it used an attenuated virus because when humans build a smarter mousetrap nature builds a smarter mouse. Hopefully, the scientists creating the vaccine will be wise enough to understand this but they really are in a hurry to get it to the public and they won't be doing proper safety testing.

Should you go to the hospital?

I would also avoid hospitals at almost any cost. Hospitals are the main disease vectors, hospitals are where the greatest concentration of the virus and the infected can be found. If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms but are healthy and not immuno-suppressed, stay put in your home. You might just have the normal flu, which goes around every winter, going to a hospital you increase your risk of encountering Coronavirus.

 The Coronavirus Threatens the Food Supply

Let's say you do the smart thing; you stock up on the immune boosters listed here and are disciplined about your healthy habits that keep your immune system strong. Coronavirus still threatens you because of our egregiously fragile just-in-time shipping and logistics infrastructure. China is now struggling because its quarantine cuts cities off from their food supply. Grocery stores will go unsupplied and the Chinese will find store shelves bare. You might think...

There's no way such a quarantine would be implemented in the USA (or another "first world" democratic country) - wouldn't happen here!

And you would probably be right, but the infection will be centralized in major population centers, if it gets bad enough might those underpaid and overworked truck drivers stop delivering to major cities? Possible, but unlikely, you would hope they would just offer some kind of bonus pay to get those truck drivers to take the risk. Consistently, when natural disasters are imminent, people get a bit panicked a few days prior and start buying up everything in stores. How likely is it that a panicked public might rapidly exhaust stores' supplies? A lot likelier right? Might rioting and looting then ensue which makes a city too dangerous for truckers to enter with their trucks full of valuable goods? Are you starting to see why it might be really smart to have a long-term supply of food and water?

Or are you just going to hope that your government contains the spread of Coronavirus? And hope that hospitals don't become totally overwhelmed? And hope that national shipping infrastructure keeps delivering everything you need just in time? And hope that the panicked and desperate public does not become unruly? Well, good luck!
