Biohacker Review: Tongkat Ali MAY make you a mischievous CAT
I've been mixing just a little LongJack Tongkat Ali with Horny Goat Weed as a pre-sexytime tea. When I previously took this stuff I took these coated tablets, which is a much more pleasant experience than taking it powdered - it has a VERY STRONG herbal taste that few will enjoy. However, you may find its experiential effect more potent after its pungent taste hits the back of your mouth.
Ultimately, Tongkat Ali gets just three stars from me because it's not been a consistent sex hack for me. A handful of times that I used it, I had less than awesome erections and ejaculatory control. A few times I took it I missed this window where my randy mood and horniness spiked and then in the middle of lovemaking, my dick decided it was naptime (which Mrs. Roseland was forgiving of because usually I rock her universe in bed). After trying Tongkat Ali a number of times now from different brands, I don't think I'll re-order it because Horny Goat Weed is such a consistent enabler of peak horizontal performance for me. But I think I'm in the minority, perusing the anecdotal evidence, most guys love it!
Scientific overview
Let's take a look at the recent science done on Tongkat Ali, it's been studied since 2010 with six human clinical trials published on Pubmed. I'll summarize the science that jumped out at me...
A 2022 meta-analysis focused on its effects on testosterone, crunching the data of nine studies done with both healthy men and men with hypogonadism. Hypogonadism is when the little-to-no sex hormones are produced resulting in low testosterone and infertility and you shouldn't feel guilty if you're diagnosed with it. It may not be your fault, it may simply be a bad card dealt to you by the genetic lottery, but dealing with it is your responsibility and fortunately, Tongkat Ali will help.
A significant improvement in total testosterone levels after E. longifolia treatment was mostly reported in both healthy volunteers and hypogonadal men.
The meta-analysis emphasizes the importance of long-term usage to achieve gains in testosterone. It's not going to boost your T overnight, expect to take it for 3,6, or 9 months to make a difference.
A 2021 Malaysian clinical trial evaluated how it affected the testosterone of 32 young, otherwise healthy men, who received 600 milligrams for two weeks. Good news for younger guys, looking for an edge in life: It boosts testosterone via a hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis mechanism...
the raised testosterone following Eurycoma longifolia supplementations could benefit muscle and strength gain in young adults.
A recent 6-month Brazilian study of 45 older men suggests that the cure for erectile dysfunction is not a pill but a pill plus action. More specifically 200 milligrams of Tongkat Ali and physical training 3 times a week for 60 min at progressive intensity. And the men in the study's placebo group had the same exercise regimen, so the herb did make a difference in the dick department. Its abstract concludes...
The combination of Eurycoma longifolia and concurrent training improved erectile function and increased total testosterone levels in men with [Androgen deficiency of aging males].
A South Korean review delves into some of the historical medicinal uses of it beyond its aphrodisiacal properties.
...the roots extract of E. longifolia are used as folk medicine for sexual dysfunction, aging, malaria, cancer, diabetes, anxiety, aches, constipation, exercise recovery, fever, increased energy, increased strength, leukemia, osteoporosis, stress, syphilis and glandular swelling. The roots are also used as an aphrodisiac, antibiotic, appetite stimulant and health supplement.
And it mentions its LD50, the lethal dose (to mice), 1500-2000 mg/kg. You won't be taking dosages anywhere close to that range (and you weigh a lot more than a mouse!) but it's a good reminder to not get too crazy with the dose.
Several studies evaluated it as a physical performance enhancer, a South African study gave 400 milligrams to a mixed-sex group for five weeks and concluded...
Treatment resulted in significant increases in total and free testosterone concentrations and muscular force in men and women.
Capsuled or powdered?
I prefer powdered as I like to take it as a hearty pre-coital tea. In my extensive experience with herbal adaptogens, the effect is a lot more acute from them when steeped in boiling water. However, as a monogamous dude, I have the privilege of usually knowing when I'm going to get laid and the time to leisurely enjoy a LongJack Tongkat Ali tea. Single guys might want to bring a few capsules along on dates just in case things are going really well and they've had a bit to drink.
Purity-verified with COA
The final thing I like about PureBulk.com's libido-enhancing supplements is that they're verified as pure with a certificate of analysis from an accredited American lab. This evidence of purity is something you should demand that your local vitamin shop or the sellers on Amazon likely can't provide.
Tongkat Ali supplements come from the Eurycoma longifolia shrub native to Indonesia, Indochina, and the Philippines. Southeast Asian cultures used the Eurycoma longifolia plant to make herbal remedies by boiling the roots in water to make a tonic. The plant goes by many other names, with the most common being tongkat ali, longjack, and Malaysian Ginseng. The name tongkat ali translates to Ali’s walking stick, a potential reference to its aphrodisiac properties or its slender, stick-like appearance. Other regional names for the plant relate to the intense bitterness of its roots. For example, the Malay-Indonesian term for tongkat ali is penawar pahit, meaning bitter medicine. Today, people take tongkat ali supplements for their potent aphrodisiac and stress relief properties.
