Biohacker Review: My Favorite Tangy Mitochondrial Nootropic

The last few days I've been taking ALCAR (900 milligrams) with L-Tyrosine in the mornings. So far I've noticed a little of an energizing effect but it doesn't really compare to Racetams. One day I upped the dosage to 2700 milligrams, there's wasn't a big difference in energy level but I noticed for about an hour and I had an uplifting sense of optimism about the world.

Uridine is a nucleotide that acts as a precursor of brain synapses and membrane phospholipids in conjunction with the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and choline sources.

It may enhance some brain cholinergic functions. Uridine also supports the health and function of liver mitochondria.

Save money on one of the most popular nootropic combinations with this combo pack! You'll receive one bottle of Alpha GPC and Uridine Monophosphate.

Alpha GPC and Uridine both work to increase levels of the essential neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and synergize well to boost memory and overall cognitive function.

Recommended Dosage
Alpha GPC:Take 1-2 300mg capsules in the morning, and again in the afternoon if needed.

Uridine: Take 1-2 300 mg per day to support cholinergic brain function and formation of synaptic connections, repeat in the afternoon if needed.

Biohacker ReviewI'm Ampakined UP!

Aniracetam is an Ampakinic smart drug that DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) has actually experimented with. So perhaps they are feeding it to the aliens at Area-51 or maybe it's what they give to the (very bored) government employees who spy on us through our webcams and smart TVs.

Conspiracy theorizing aside, Aniracetam is good for my memory but it's not my favorite Racetam. I have noticeably less discipline, energy, and focus than while dosed on it compared with other Racetams I've done biohacker trials with. It's not very energizing, so if you are trying to avoid stimulants Aniracetam may be a good option for you. For me, I like smart drugs that put me into this intensely focused zone so I usually stack it with Piracetam or caffeine and L-theanine stack (like 1-2 GO from Pure Nootropics)

Biohacker Review: A clumpy focus drug for nerds

Aniracetam modulates the Ampakine receptor in the brain and interestingly, Ampakinic drugs have actually been investigated by Darpa. Which is the shadowy military research organization that there are all kinds of crazy (and not so crazy) conspiracy theories about. So if the US government wants to hire me to broker an interstellar peace arrangement with aliens or travel back in time to save JFK you can find my resume on LinkedIn.

The packet it comes in is pretty small but the dosage needed for effect is a lot lower than Piracetam. A dosage of 1500-2000 milligrams puts me into a very focused state for 3-6 hours.

Coluracetam is a nootropic from the racetam family. It works as a high affinity choline uptake enhancer and was originally developed for use with Alzheimers disorder although it did not reach endpoints in clinical trials. Another clinical trial, carried out by BrainCells Inc have suggested that it would be a potential medication for depression and anxiety [1]. By increasing choline uptake and synthesizing Acetylcholine it is thought to enhance cognition, improve memory and help rational decision making.

Biohacker ReviewThe caviar of antidepressants to vanquish seasonal affective disorder

I filmed my video about this drug in front of the Parliament Building in Bucharest, Romania. As you can see it's a very gray, brooding building, in a part of the world that this time of the year is also very gray and brooding during winter.

Bucharest, Romania

For the past four months or so I've been living in Eastern Europe, which is a nicer part of the world than you would guess from the headlines but during this season it's kind of a global hotspot for SAD (seasonal affective disorder) which  -  unless you live somewhere you need to worry about coconuts falling on your head  -  is something you've probably experienced. During the winter season, there's a whole lot less sunlight, the days are shorter, you spend more time indoors, you sleep more, you might gain some weight, you're less likely to go to the gym, or hang out with friends, and a lot of people suffer from mild depression as a result for a couple of months out of the year.

So there are some holistic ways to beat SAD, like setting up a home gym, following a strict diet, or even installing special lights in your bedroom that signal to your neurobiology that it's summertime. However, I'm a digital nomad and none of these options work great for me. For me, Coluracetam has been an irreplaceable Biohack for beating SAD

It's not a hardcore focus drug like Modafinil, nor does it give me a bunch of energy and pep like caffeine or Piracetam. What it does is just add a subtle and underlying positivity to my mood. There's a noticeable difference on it and off it, especially in this dreadfully gloomy part of the world.

It's a quintessential antidepressant

Some comedian made a joke about what happens if you take antidepressants when you aren't actually depressed… Do you just become more awesome? In the case of Coluracetam, not so much, I would say it improves my mood by 25% - 75%.

One day I did about 20 milligrams 15 minutes before my afternoon meditation session, during the meditation I can appreciate the optimistic mood it puts me into. This sensation lasted about four hours.

It's not great for mood permeability, I did it a few times near the end of my workday when I was in zombie borg drone mode and headed to do something social. It does make me slightly more optimistic which is helpful but it didn't help me get in a carefree social mood like Phenibut, Kratom, or even meditation does. It won't be my go-to social smart drug

Nootropics can be enablers of Nihilism

While one day I started watching documentaries about ISIS and the European migrant crisis, and I was drawn into the rabbit hole of Nihilism.
The healthy thing to do would be to not watch the depressing content, but I found myself using the antidepressant as an excuse to indulge my Nihilism.

Experiential

I tried Coluracetam for the first time in the amount of about 20 milligrams when I was doing a walking tour of Berlin (got a few touristy photos attached). Despite walking around an amazing city center on a beautiful summer day I didn't quite experience this often-praised effect of the outdoor world seeming more vivid.

Stacking

A Youtube commenter suggested stacking Coluracetam with L-Theanine, which I tried and it's a pretty good stack, especially in combination with some delicious Bulletproof-style coffee. The creative mindset that L-Theanine puts me in is nicely complemented by the optimism that Coluracetam stimulates - this has become my go-to stack since I ran out of Piracetam.
Speaking of coffee, anecdotally Coluracetam has this cool effect of reversing caffeine tolerance. I, unfortunately, did not experience this, at least not noticeably. Another consistent way to reverse caffeine tolerance is just to stop consuming caffeine for about 10 days and your caffeine tolerance will almost completely go away. And after consuming just a single cup of coffee you will again feel like a Greek god consuming ambrosia in the fields of Elysium. Coluracetam did not have the same effect for me.

Coluracetam Powdered

It has a rocky, clumpy consistency that reminds me of cocaine  -  the tiny rocks feel like boulders under my tongue. You may need to break it up before consumption. I've been taking it sublingually because it's so damn expensive that I don't want to waste a single granule of it. Its taste is not pleasant and it kind of lingers on your palette, I don't recommend taking it before a meal. It doesn't taste great but it's not as bad as some drugs I've tried.

Scienceguy on Longecity suggested it potentiates Oxiracetam, I've taken it now a couple of times with Caballo which has Oxiracetam but I'm not sure if I've experienced this yet…
One day I was operating on about four hours of sleep, so I was somewhat sleep-deprived and kept slipping back into an unfocused funk. I took Coluracetam around 1 PM and 4 PM and there was a disappointing absence of an effect.

I wish I could rate Coluracetam higher, but I'm deducting two stars because it's just not a great value, there are plenty of Nootropics that gram for gram, cost a 3rd or 4th of Coluracetam and have just as helpful effect on mood, focus, and memory. For mere economics, I wouldn't reorder it.

Scientific overview

There are 4 DIVAZA® clinical trials; the most recent completed in 2017 included 126 Russian patients with mild to moderate cognitive disorders. A 2016 study administered it to 60 middle-aged to elderly patients for 12 weeks...

Divaza significantly improved cognitive status as assessed with MMSE and reduce anxiety symptoms according to the Hamilton anxiety scale after three weeks of treatment. This statistically significant trend was observed after 12 weeks treatment. Correction of cognitive and emotional capacities contributed to a significant increase in quality of life (SS-QOL) in patients of the main group. The drug was well-tolerated by all patients and had no side-effects.

So it manifested classic Nootropic effects for the elderly and impaired; enhanced cognition, anxiety reduction, and improved quality of life - so I would expect it to have performance-enhancing effects in otherwise healthy, younger people. The most exhaustive clinical trial of DIVAZA® was completed in 2020, totaling over 2500 chronic cerebral ischemia patients, it demonstrated the drug as an effective brain power Nootropic.

Divaza improved cognitive functions of patients in each age group... In the study, we observed the efficacy of Divaza for the treatment of [cognitive disorder]: a therapy contributed to an increase in the mean [Montreal Cognitive Assessment] score and the positive dynamics in the number of patients with cognitive improvement.

The trial gives us some dosage and usage guidelines...

Patients received Divaza (2 tablets 3 times per day for 12 weeks).

Biohacker Review: Overcoming Sleep Deprivation

I hadn't used Modafinil in quite some time, I'd just received an assortment of Eurogics which I decided to use to offset a night of bad sleep. Which I don't recommend generally, Nootropics should not be used regularly to cope with insomnia, but I suffer from insomnia infrequently and Modafinil can really make a big difference when you're sleep-deprived.

My personal policy on sleep deprivation is that I wake up early, get to work, and do my best to power through the day. I emerged from light and dissatisfying slumber around 5:30 AM after tossing and turning for hours while thoughts raced through my mind. Modafinil typically takes an hour or sometimes two to kick in for me, so I took a full 200-milligram capsule of MODAWAKE® and tried to go back to sleep. The Modafinil kicked in as expected, it's a kind of cool sensation to feel the Modafinil begin to take effect as you are halfway between the dream world and waking life. I cuddled with my wife for a bit and got up.
